What is being investigated?

The vitamin D self-test serves as a preliminary assessment of the vitamin D level in the blood . Vitamin D is one of the fat-soluble vitamins and is involved, among other things, in the absorption of calcium, magnesium, phosphate, iron, and zinc .

The concentration of vitamin D in the blood is considered a suitable marker for assessing vitamin D status .

For whom might the test be useful?

The test can be used for self-assessment if a risk of insufficient vitamin D levels is suspected. This includes, among other things, situations involving:

  • low sunlight
  • limited absorption through diet
  • reduced absorption in the intestine

Adequate vitamin D levels are considered in relation to bone health and general bodily functions.

Test principle and measuring range

The vitamin D test is an immunoassay based on the principle of competitive protein binding .
It allows for a classification of vitamin D status into different areas.

Measuring range: 10–100 ng/ml
Accuracy: 94.4%

implementation

The test is conducted entirely at home :

  1. Taking a blood sample with a sterile lancet
  2. Take up the blood sample with the capillary pipette up to the mark
  3. Apply the sample to the designated trough (S)
  4. Add 2 drops of thinner
  5. Read the result after 10 minutes by comparing it to the enclosed color chart.

A line appears in the control area (C) indicating that the test was performed correctly.

Interpretation of the results

  • Sufficient (30–100 ng/ml): Test line equal to or lighter than the reference mark at 30 ng/ml
  • Insufficient (10–30 ng/ml): Test line darker than 30 ng/ml, but lighter than 10 ng/ml
  • Deficiency (0–10 ng/ml): Test line equal to or darker than 10 ng/ml – medical evaluation recommended
  • Excessive (> 100 ng/ml): No visible test line – medical evaluation recommended

The intensity of the color is decisive for the assessment, not its exact color gradation.
