What is being tested?
This test is used for the molecular genetic detection of single-celled parasites in the intestine . The analysis is performed using multiplex PCR , a highly precise method that allows for the simultaneous genetic analysis of several parasitic pathogens. This enables the reliable detection of even small quantities of parasites.
The following single-celled parasites are being tested for:
Giardia duodenalis, Entamoeba histolytica, Cryptosporidium spp., Cyclospora cayetanensis, Blastocystis hominis, Dientamoeba fragilis.
When is the test useful?
Molecular genetic stool analysis can be considered in cases of persistent or unclear gastrointestinal symptoms , for example in:
- recurring or prolonged diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Flatulence
- Complaints following travel or unclear infections
The test can help to further clarify parasitic causes , but it does not replace a medical assessment.
Implementation and evaluation
The examination is laboratory-based . The sample is analyzed in the laboratory using molecular genetic multiplex PCR . This method allows for the simultaneous detection of several single-celled parasites with high sensitivity.
A separate parasitological examination using microscopy is available for the detection of worms or worm eggs .
Result and classification
The test result can provide indications of a parasitic infestation by single-celled pathogens .
In case of a positive or unclear result, it is recommended to contact a medical professional for further clarification .
