overview
The Level 2 Gut Flora Check builds upon the content of the Level 1 Gut Flora Check and expands it to include additional functional gut parameters . In addition to assessing the gut flora, this test allows for a more in-depth evaluation of digestive performance, the intestinal barrier, and the immunological status of the gut .
Assessment of the intestinal flora
As in stage 1, the bacterial balance in the gut is examined. This includes, among other things:
- the ratio of important bacterial groups
- the occurrence of yeasts and fungi
- the pH value of the stool
- as well as clostridia
detected. Clostridia are bacteria that can be associated with, among other things , flatulence and digestive problems .
This basic analysis provides a structured overview of the composition of the intestinal flora .
Extended additional parameters
In addition to the gut flora analysis, stage 2 includes further parameters that reflect different functional aspects of the gut :
- Alpha-1 antitrypsin – an indicator of intestinal mucosal integrity
- Calprotectin – marker for inflammatory processes in the intestine
- Bile acids – Classification of fat digestion
- Pancreatic elastase – Assessment of the digestive enzyme function of the pancreas
- Secretory IgA (sIgA) – an indicator of immunological activity in the gut
- Zonulin – marker for intestinal permeability
- Digestive residues – indicators of food breakdown
This combination allows for a more comprehensive examination of bowel function than the basic stage alone.
When is the test useful?
The gut flora check, level 2, can be useful:
- for persistent or more complex digestive problems
- when barrier, inflammation or digestive aspects are to be taken into account in addition to the intestinal flora
- for further analysis following a conspicuous result from stage 1
The test serves as an orienting assessment and does not replace medical diagnosis.
Implementation and evaluation
Stool samples are collected at home . All necessary sample materials will be provided.
After the sample is submitted, it is analyzed in the laboratory . The results are presented clearly and supplemented with an interpretation . Further information on intestinal cleansing can be found here .
