When is this test useful?

You should use this stool test kit if you have a suspected diagnosis of leaky gut .
These complaints are usually also associated with food intolerances or food allergies, as well as intestinal problems .

What is being tested?

The proteins zonulin and alpha-1-antitrypsin , which are indicators of leaky gut, are tested. Alpha-1-antitrypsin also provides information about inflammation in the intestine .

It would also be possible to test for zonulin alone . However, the accuracy increases considerably when both substances are tested together.

What happens when the intestine is permeable?

Basically, only small molecules can pass through the intestinal wall.
However, when the intestinal lining is damaged, gaps form between the cells . These gaps arise from the absence of so-called tight junctions . Among other functions, tight junctions seal the intercellular space.

If this seal is missing, unwanted substances can penetrate the body. These can be microorganisms or large protein molecules from food . The body reacts to these substances with immune responses . This can lead to a sudden inability to tolerate certain foods .

6 steps to get rid of a "leaky gut"

  1. Avoid foods that can be particularly problematic for leaky gut. These include:
Pork, dairy products, wheat, spelt, artificial sweeteners, nuts, some foods from the nightshade family (chili, pepper, cayenne pepper) and tropical fruits such as papaya, pineapple and citrus fruits.
Wheat is particularly problematic because it contains the substance ATI (amylase-trypsin inhibitor) . ATI is a natural stomach toxin that protects the plant. Through selective breeding, the ATI content in wheat has increased over time, which can put additional strain on the intestinal lining.

  2. Eat more foods that promote a healthy gut environment. These include, above all, fiber , for example:
Vegetables: Salsify, Jerusalem artichokes, carrots, artichokes, cabbage
Legumes: lentils, peas, white beans, chickpeas
    Berries: Raspberries, blueberries, blackcurrants
    Other: Tiger nuts (Chufas)

  3. Bay leaves and green pepper can also help to get a leaky gut under control more quickly.

  4. Take a bacterial supplement containing a broad spectrum of bacteria, e.g., Burgerstein Biotics G, for at least 8 weeks.

  5. Take one teaspoon of L-glutamine daily before meals . L-glutamine provides energy to the intestines and supports the regeneration of the intestinal lining.

  6. Have a herbal tincture and/or a spagyric plant essence prepared for you at your local health food store or pharmacy . This should support natural digestive function and regulate the lymphatic and immune systems of the intestines. Further preparations may be beneficial after an individual assessment.
