What is being investigated?
The iron and ferritin self-test serves as a preliminary assessment of the body's iron reserves . It measures ferritin , a protein that stores iron and serves as an indicator of the available amount of iron .
The test detects ferritin levels below the threshold of 30 ng/mL , thus enabling an initial assessment of potentially low iron reserves .
For whom might the test be useful?
This test can be used to check iron stores when a quick self-assessment is desired. It serves as a guideline and does not replace a medical examination.
Test principle and performance data
The IRON FER TEST is an immunochromatographic rapid test for determining ferritin in capillary blood.
Performance data of the test:
- Specificity: 100%
- Sensitivity: 85.2%
- Accuracy: 96.6%
implementation
The test is conducted entirely at home :
- Taking a blood sample using the supplied sterile lancet
- Taking up the blood sample with the capillary pipette (up to the mark)
- Apply the sample to the designated well (S) of the test cassette.
- Add 2 drops of thinner
- Reading the result after 5 minutes
A line appears in the control area (C) indicating that the test was performed correctly.
Interpretation of the results
- Negative: The ferritin level is above 30 ng/mL . Values just below this range (approx. 27–29 ng/mL) can lead to a similar result.
- Positive: The ferritin level is below the limit . In this case, it is recommended to have the result checked by a doctor .
The color or intensity of the test line is not relevant for the interpretation.
